Statement By Ohio AFL-CIO President Tim Burga On Donald Trump’s Visit To Youngstown

Today, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump came to Youngstown, Ohio to deliver a speech focused on foreign policy.  In response to the event, Ohio AFL-CIO President Tim Burga issued the following statement:

“Thus far in Donald Trump’s career, the only foreign policy experience he has is outsourcing his own line of products overseas.  Trump’s abiding principle has been to enrich himself, no matter the cost to working people.”

“Trump has a real ethical problem when it comes to issues of trade because he is guilty of the very outsourcing practices he rails against in his rhetoric.  The working people of Northeast Ohio know far too well how trade practices like those of Trump have cost us our jobs here and they are coming to realize that connection.”

“Trump’s understanding of what our local economies need is so debased that he didn’t recognize the need to save our auto industry.  Thousands of workers in the Mahoning Valley agree that Trump’s positions didn’t represent their interests then, and they certainly don’t reflect their interests now.”
