Rest In Peace Brother Horton: Retired Elyria Firefighter Killed In Car Crash

Two people, one a retired Elyria firefighter, were killed Sunday in a two-vehicle crash, and State Highway Patrol troopers believe drugs and phone use are factors.

Mark Horton, 64, of Sheffield Township, and Cody Wallace, 21, of New London both died in the crash, which occurred at about 1:28 p.m. on Ohio 58 (South Main Street), just south of Jones Road in Wellington Township.

In a news release from the Sandusky Post of the Highway Patrol, troopers say Horton was driving a 2014 Dodge Caravan south on Ohio 58, while Wallace was driving north in a 2016 Ford Fusion. The Fusion went left-of-center, hitting the Caravan head-on. Read full article here.

Horton, served as the treasurer of the Ohio Association of  Professional Firefighters. He was on his way to a training seminar when the crash occurred.
