With great sadness, I inform you of the passing of longtime Ohio AFL-CIO Executive Board member, United Mine Worker brother, and friend, Babe Erdos.
Babe began his work as a coal miner in Harrison County, OH with the Y&O company at its Nelms #2 mine, and quickly raised through the ranks to become local union president of UMWA Local 1304. Since then he has held a variety of positions within his own union, including International Auditor, International Executive Board member, and Ohio COMPAC director. He has also served as a vice president on the Ohio AFL-CIO Executive Board for over 25 years.
Babe tirelessly fought for members and retirees of his union, and dedicated his lifetime to achieving social and economic justice for all.
He will be greatly missed. Please keep his family and wife Sue in your thoughts and prayers.
We will pass along memorial information as it becomes available to us.
