CLEVELAND, Ohio – AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka spoke of putting “our agenda before our politics” in an address here this week at his organization’s Ohio convention.

It was a notable line, given that the powerful labor group is aligned with Democrats and their presidential nominee Hillary Clinton at a time when Republican Donald Trump is winning over working-class voters with his strident opposition to international trade deals.

“First of all, [Trump’s] agenda isn’t our agenda,” Trumka told reporters during a brief interview after his speech at the Hilton Cleveland Downtown. “He’s tapped into their anger and their frustration, but all of his policies and his agenda is totally different than working people’s agenda. And when you give them the facts, they come back across the bridge.”
