Ohio AFL-CIO Unveils New Mailer on US Senate Race
Direct mail piece contrasting candidates calls Portman a sell-out.
Columbus, OH – The Ohio AFL-CIO unveiled a new mailer that is being sent to about 110,000 Ohio voters this week. The piece contrasts US Senate candidates Ted Strickland and Rob Portman on issues important to working people in Ohio.
“Ted Strickland is focused on the issues that matter most to our families,” the piece reads. The mailer then lists several issues on which Strickland has stood with working families including opposing unfair trade deals like NAFTA and CAFTA, eliminating tax loopholes for corporations that send American jobs overseas and protecting Medicare and Social Security.
The piece then contrasts Portman’s record on the same issues, and calls him a sell-out for big business. “Portman voted for and supported devastating trade deals like NAFTA and CAFTA, and even voted to fast track the TPP,” the piece reads. The mailer also calls out Portman because he “voted to give tax breaks to billionaires and other Wall Street executives and voted to protect tax breaks for corporations that outsource jobs.” The piece also blasts Portman for his support for privatizing Social Security and “letting Wall Street collect fees while putting every worker’s retirement security at risk.”
