As Congress gets closer to a vote on approving “fast track” trade promotion authority for the Trans-Pacific Partnership, it is important to look at the arguments put forth in favor of the procedure and how the trade deal itself could be a disaster for creating and retaining good manufacturing jobs in Ohio and across the country.

First, the fact that “fast track” would give the president of the United States unilateral authority to negotiate global trade deals under a cloak of secrecy where Congress can only vote up or down on the final deal is indicative of an agreement that could only pass with no scrutiny.
